History & Legacy

Inception of the Mission

In 1981, a student, frustrated by limited college seats, met Professor Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, who inspired a mission to address the scarcity of professional education opportunities in the face of a flawed education system.

Establishment of MIT

Professor Karad’s journey led to a historic meeting with the Minister of Technical Education in 1983, resulting in the creation of the first nine private engineering colleges in Maharashtra. MIT, Pune, emerged as the city’s first engineering college in 125 years, symbolizing quality, accessibility, and opportunities.

Building an Academic Legacy

Treading on the path cultivated three decades ago by Prof. Karad, MIT has yielded rewards for its exemplary service to society. Under his farsighted vision, determination, and steady guidance, the institutions under the aegis of MIT Pune, have evolved into 4 universities with an effort to reach out to students across India.

Growth and Diversity

Over 32 years of excellence in education, MIT Group has 70+ institutions with more than 6,500 teaching and nonteaching personnel serving over 50000 thousand students in Engineering, Science and Technology, Management, Medicine, Design, Fine Arts, Journalism, Vedic Sciences, Human Rights, Law, among many diverse fields.
